Synopsis

Cult of Wisdom is a spiritual romance that challenges the strength of self love in defiance of infinite failure. The estranged soul, Mù traverses through the depths of the subconsciousness to reunite with its flesh counterpart.

With their trusted guide, Senet, the comically incompetent bureaucracy of the subconcious system and misadventures into the embarassing uncanney valleys of memories, this is a journey that endures the forgetfulness of awakening.

Backstory

8-ish years during a cold winter dawn on a campus commute, a "reskin" of Dante Allegheri's Divine Comedy was conceived to make peace with my existential dread and the life I've lived. I was greatly healed by his adventures as a mere human traversing through unknown realm; also a coping mechanism for his traumatic experience being exiled out of the city he loved.

One of my treasures: Gustave Dore's (one of my favourite artists) engraved artworks, including The Divine Comedy.

While his world projects moral ideals and karmic judgement onto external characters and surrounding environment, I wanted to experiment with the soul being a driver of how these moral ideals and environments would take shape: creating a playground of ideas, symbols, dreams/nightmares and memories that reflect their time on Earth.

Early versions of Dante and Virgil, now defunct.

Thought Experiment

This project is also a fun thought experiment as to what happens when one is travelling from the physical state of consciousness to the kingdom of unconscious fantasy.

Pair of eyes with intense gaze, a spark ignites behind their pupils.
Spark of imagination.
Thought Experiment #1: How does a lived lifespan appear from a third perspective?
Thought Experiment #2: How can one retain information between both realms?
Thought Experiment #3: What wisdom lies at the end of the unconscious world when death is the entry?

And that's where the project branches off from Dante fan-fiction and into it's own path that I feel compelled to explore and capture it beauty!

I have to know!
I'm calling into the void...☎️
What happens when we die?
I desire answers despite this being a stupid question-
Please! Tell me!

You may know me as B. D. Chau Art from personal encounters as I make original artworks of surreal, fantastical worlds and character designs. I am branching out to give my images a cohesive narrative and Cult of Wisdom will be my first public story so I am very excited! Wish me luck!

Many Thanks

I would like to give many thanks to years of religious trauma, an obsession with death, the voices being surprisingly helpful and a wealth of mistakes that make people question why I would go through it in the first place to give this story it's special ingredient: sacred humor.

With thanks of actual sincerity and gratitude, I would like to thank my community of artists and mutuals from my university art and furry clubs, wonderful horny art commisioners, my loyal following for giving this project a chance and my IRL mutuals that have encouraged me to have my voice heard that this concept is even posted on the WWW. With all being said, I hope you enjoy your visit~
